Everyone makes assumptions. Every second of every day of their entire life. It is completely natural. Every assumption requires a leap of logic.
A small leap of logic is referred to as common sense.
When someone is making an assumption or accusation about you that has no basis in the reality you’ve given them. The leap of logic is simply too large for common sense to get them across that river.
There are only two ways they are making that vast crossing. Either pure malice is giving them the energy to make the swim.
Or they are using preconceived notions they already had about you as stepping stones to make it to that assumption/accusation.
The thing most people don’t understand is that creativity is a blessing, a gift that most people lack. They are not coming up with a random story about you, they are projecting their story onto you. That’s where the preconceived notions are coming from. That’s why the story sounds so real when its fake.
So when you realize someone is making an enormous leap of logic to make an out of pocket accusation against you, understand that they are confessing. Do not interrupt them to defend yourself.
Don’t argue. Don’t try to guide them to a riverbank that makes more sense. Because all you are doing is pointing out more stepping stones in the river and they can use the same ones that would prove your innocence to prove their accusation.
